The Shroyers : Real Life

February 17, 2010

The next two posts are full of people I love. I am so excited to finally share these images with you! I’ve been waiting for a BIG moment which has finally happened…but i’m saving that till next post! ;-)

I’d like to introduce you to the Shroyer family, Mike, Ami, J Michael, and Sadiella! Mike and I have been friends for years, literally, he was one of my camp counselors when I was a kid at Casowasco! Since then we’ve seen each others ups and downs, relocations, and families grow. I was  privileged to visit them in NC back in November of 09. I was able to allocate a whole week to Shroyer time! Sooooo fabulous! It’s always tough when I have to leave, they’re absolutely wonderful, and I’ve been tempted (more than once) to move to where they are. Not that they don’t suggest it every chance they get  . But, God has me here in cold and snowy NY for now. Maybe one day I’ll get to join them in the warm and sunny Carolinas!

Every time I look at these pictures I’m flooded with wonderful memories. I can’t wait until I get to visit them again! I miss them so much!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend full of Luuuuurrrrvvv! That’s right. I said Lurv.

Anywho, my weekend was so wonderful. Saturday was spent taking pictures and then hanging out with three of my favorite people in the world. We got sushi and spent the evening playing card games. Not super romantic but it was more than enough for me! Here’s a shot Donna, my beautiful roommate, took of the 4 of us.

Sunday was all sorts of crazy. My best friend, roommate, and personal model, Lillian was proposed to Sunday evening. I plotted with her now finance and we came up with an elaborate scavenger hunt/scheme/engagement party all wrapped into one! I wont go into detail because you’d be here all night reading this blog, but it went off with out a hitch! She was surprised to say the least! Images and possibly video to come soon.

Speaking of video, I know I promised the debut of my new Canon 7d’s video awesomeness but alas, my current computoral state is not powerful enough to process the awesomeness that is the 7d video. Therefor, there will be some delay in getting that tasty goodness to you. Rest assured though, I will do everything with in my power to show you. Oh yes, it will be shown!

February has be full of some great stuff so far. It’s usually about this time that I start getting depressed and try to figure out how to leave Syracuse until spring finally returns to us. So far this month has proven to be fairly mild and pretty bearable.

On the one had you have the greatness that is birthdays, superbowl, valentines day, and the sun finally starting slow it’s decent in the sky to after 6pm. On the other hand you have insanely cold days, high gas bills, and snow, snow, SNOW!  This year the good out weighs the bad.

I’m going to leave you with a picture of a delicious looking black bean burger by morning star. I didn’t take the picture but man it looks appetizing! I had one of these over the weekend and my life has been changed. I really think it would be possible for me to go vegetarian. Morning Star and Quorn make some great products! If only they weren’t so darn expensive!

It seems like every day I run into a photographer or an aspiring photographer. I love talking shop and seeing other peoples styles. Recently I’ve gotten a lot of request from some fellow female photographers to follow me around or get some tips on wedding photography. So I decided to start the Femme Fotog Workshop.

We met at my place got all the models sassifyed and then headed to the Lincklaen House. I want to thank all of the models: Christina, Liz, Lauren, and Ryan for being amazing sports! They did pretty much anything we asked! Also, all of the dresses were donated by Spy Baby Bridal. I absolutely adore that boutique!!  Thank you so much to everyone who helped out!

Our first meeting focused on Natural light, posing, and some flash. I really wanted to make sure the ladies got good work for their portfolios.

I gave them a couple of challenges. The first was to create a beautiful and then a dramatic picture  just using natural light. (the photos you see are mine for examples sake)

Then we played with some flash techniques. The first image is direct flash, the second is bounce flash behind me, and the third is directional flash bounced off to the side to get the final dramatic look:

I invited my friend Ryan along as a model because he’s HUGE! Ryan is 6′ 7″ and a challenge to photograph with short brides (mwahahaha!). So we played with posing techniques. First Ryan by himself and then Ryan with a model.

Next we went outside because the light was just too beautiful to resist!

Lastly, we played with available light inside. It can make stunning photographs! (The first image was just for fun!)

Thank you again to everyone involved! Models, Vendors, and Photogs! I couldn’t have done it without you!
