Archive for May, 2010

This post has been in the making for awhile now. Ever since I met the boys from Fazeshift (Joey, Alec, & Josh) I’ve wanted to do some band promo shots for them. They’re exceptional musicions and amazing guys! We all became fast friends! Unfortunately the weather here in Central NY doesn’t like to cooperate! We finally caught a break and ran down to the old cement factory in Jamesville for some edgy shots! We managed to dodge most of the rain, but the wind was something epic! WOW!

This is only part 1 of a 3 part series of band photos I’m doing for the guys. These are their “serious” shots, we have some really fantastic ideas for the next 2 shoots! I can’t wait!

Do you smell that? Breathe in  deep! Oohhh that smells glorious! Wedding season is in the air! I’ve been itching for May to get here and it finally is! Sarah & Carl’s wedding was such a WONDERFUL way to start the season, not just because their wedding was all together beautiful and amazing to shoot, but also because Sarah is my cousin! I’ve known her ever since she was born! (She’s a year younger) and we’ve been good friends ever since! The best part of family reunions? Sarah and her family! I adore them, so when they asked me to shoot their wedding it was an easy answer!  DUH! ;-)

The day was beautiful, no one would have known that less than a week previous there was snow on the ground! (gotta love central NY!) All of the flowers were in bloom and cherry blossoms covered the ground. Their ceremony, at Christ Church, was full of emotion from Sarah’s sister crying during her Bible verse to the Priest giving a beautiful and witty message. Although storm clouds threatened our fun formal time in down town Rochester, the day went off with out a hitch! Back at the reception, at The Inn on Broadway, we had fun capturing all of the commotion of the dance party to  the tender moments between Sarah and her Dad. Thank you Sarah & Carl for allowing me to capture your beautiful story!

Also, I’m implementing something new this season. VOTING! Vote for your favorite wedding pictures at the end of the blog entry. Once the 2010 season is done, the top images will be added into a final vote. The Bride & Groom that receive the most votes will get a free 16×20 canvas of that image! So make sure you send all of your friends and family to vote!!

I received an email last week that encompasses why I’m a photographer. A Mother of the Bride from last summer’s wedding season contacted me to get a quote on prints. Typical right? Not so much, the story of WHY she wanted the prints was so deeply touching that I choked up right there in front of my computer! Melissa graciously agreed to allow me to share her story/email on my website. She entitled the picture “The Last Dance.”

Hi Mabyn,

I’m Trisha’s Mom. You took a photo of my father and I with me dancing and I’m leaning on his shoulder crying. The reason I was crying was my father is terminally ill with cancer and all I could think was, my god this is the last dance with my Dad.

My whole family is quite taken by the moment you captured.

My father now only has a couple of months to live and I would like to give a 5×7 to each of my siblings plus my mother.

Could you please give me a quote for 6 – 5×7′s in the black and white version? Also, the time line it would take to get them?

Thank you,
Melissa

You never know when you take a picture who it’s going to impact or why. This is a special moment Melissa shared with her father that she will have forever. I am so honored to be the one who captured it for her.

I pray that you take this into consideration when booking your photographer, be it for your wedding, family portraits, or baby pictures. It’s so important to document life. To quote Simon and Garfunkel “preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you.” It’s so true. At the end, what do you have that survives the people you love?
